This highly practical programme covers welding, fabrication, machining, fitting and maintenance, along with embedded safety, drawing, trade theory, calculations and communication skills. It also includes a series of trade-relevant engineering projects. Please note: in order to undertake this programme you must be physically able to work safely in an industry-related work environment.

What if English is not my first Language?
我f English is not your first language, we want to make sure that you will be successful in your chosen programme of study.
- Please provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives英语水平的结果图。
- 我f you are a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident, complete an Admission and Enrolment form and Ara will contact you regarding a free assessment.
- 我f you are not a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent resident, book an IELTS or other test through the Ara Examination Centre or in your home country.
- 我ELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
- What if I have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance?
- You do not need to provide additional evidence of English Language skills.

With this qualification you'll be able to work (under limited supervision) as an operator or trade assistant in your area of specialisation, in the mechanical engineering, steel construction, mechanical building services, manufacturing, or fabrication industries.
Study pathways
This qualification can lead to Level 4 programmes in mechanical engineering, engineering fabrication and mechanical building services. Other options may include a diploma or degree in engineering in civil, electrical or mechanical disciplines.
